Fashion Month is now being celebrated in New York. The celebration has never been more heavily-decorated as designers like Gabriela Hurst, LaQuan Smith, Prabal Gurung, Batsheva, and Collina Strada showcase their collections during a five-and-a-half day celebration filled with runway events.
Fashion fans like the diverse collections, such as Wes Gordon’s “The Secret Garden”-inspired line. In Manhattan’s Plaza Hotel, Carolina Herrera’s creative director spoke about the line’s elegantly designed garments. For Victor Gleamud’s designs, rollerskater models were also present at Rockefeller Center.
“This collection to me was an unapologetic embrace of being a house that makes beautiful, colorful, floral, happy clothes … We don’t always have to be chasing a trend,” Wes Gordon explained.
Ulla Johnson’s clothing filled the Beaux-Arts Court of the Brooklyn Museum, while Jason Wu’s elegant beaded dresses could be seen in the East River at Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport.
The highlight of fashion week was undoubtedly the presence of collaborations, like when Tommy Hilfiger teamed up with British designer Richard Quinn for a presentation on the Brooklyn waterfront. Andy Warhol, a local legend, was honored with the performance. John Legend, Kate Moss, Kris Jenner, Kourtney Kardashian, and Travis Barker were among the well-known people that attended. Travis Barker’s daughter took the runway during the show and afterward marched with the models in the closing procession.

Gabriela Hearst made a statement at Fashion Week when the runway became gold. The Brooklyn Navy Yard served as the setting for the runway presentation, which included attire in the colors black, white, and gold with a dash of yellow and red. As the audience was astounded by the Ancient Greek poet Sappho-inspired attire, the Resistance Revival Chorus accompanied the performance while dressed entirely in white.
“I realized I swam a little deeper in the subconscious than usual (for this collection), and so I’m a bit more vulnerable and a bit more exposed, in a way,” Hearst stated.
Jampacked fashion week
A-listers were everywhere during Fashion Week. For example, Arca, Kendall Jenner, Anok Yai, and Bella Hadid were all guests at a Proenza Schouler runway performance.
The next day, Winnie Harlow, Lila Moss, Precious Lee, Hari Nef, and Julia Fox showed up for the Tommy Hilfiger event. Aoki Lee Simmons, Chanel Iman, and Veronica Webb were a few of the other actors that appeared in the program. Singer Lil Nas X was also presented by the clothing company Coach as its new global ambassador while sporting its jelly shoes and a vest made of black leather.

After cancellations, Fashion Week is back
Fashion Week had to repeatedly be canceled due to the pandemic’s impact and limitations. Now, New York Fashion Week has returned since the limitations have been relaxed as a result of the decrease in Covid-19 incidents.
“I feel like we are back — New York is back,” said designer LaQuan Smith.
“As a native New Yorker, I remember sneaking into New York Fashion Week shows that I wasn’t invited to, so it’s an honor for me to just be on the calendar and have buyers, stylists, and influencers coming to see what LaQuan Smith has to say.”
The variety of design motives and runway themes demonstrated the designers’ ingenuity. The designers are experimenting with all aspects of fashion, taking it to a new level, from the disco of the 1970s to apparel inspired by gardens and Ancient Greece.
“To the ones who are demonised because they are not understood in genders, in colors, in places and in values that others know: on this runway, know that we are no longer watching you, we are seeing you,” stated Prabal Gurung.
