The current rate of dropouts in the United States is a cause for concern. There are several reasons why young people are deciding to quit school, but a great majority of those who do so do not necessarily end up having better careers. Up-and-coming music artist Its Ibby is advocating the importance of staying in school so young people can secure a better future for themselves.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) there were 2.1 million status dropouts of students with ages ranging from 16 to 24 years old in 2017. The overall status dropout rate that same year reached 5.4%. The report further elaborates that the status dropout rate varied by race/ethnicity. On top of the list were American Indian/Alaska Native youth, followed by Hispanics, black, biracial individuals, white, Pacific Islanders, and Asians.
Its Ibby holds a bachelor of science degree in industrial, manufacturing, and systems engineering from Texas Tech University. While music is one of his greatest passions in life, he still opted to get a degree to boost his credentials and skills. He also wishes for his personal conviction to serve as an inspiration to young people—that no matter how challenging staying in school can get, one has the choice to persevere for it to work out.
Just recently, Its Ibby launched his hit single “Hol’on Wait” and is currently streaming on Spotify. The single is also available on YouTube.
