Every woman has her own little tricks that she uses to look beautiful and attractive. While in the past, making the gaze more expressive could only be achieved through the use of special cosmetic products, in recent years, services such as eyelash extensions and eyebrow shaping have been gaining increasing popularity. Lashmaking is an interesting and creative profession that requires both professional skills and extreme precision and accuracy. A true master of her craft, a “jeweler” in eyelash extensions, and a creative eyebrow designer, Laura Urazayeva knows firsthand how to visually enlarge the eyes and emphasize the natural shape of the eyebrows.
Laura, what was the starting point on your path to this profession?
I must say that my family, which includes my parents and younger brother, is very far from my profession. I started being interested in makeup from an early age, beautifying dolls. While studying at a lyceum with a focus on physics and mathematics, I practiced on my classmates. Although it was just a hobby, deep down, I knew that I wanted to develop and improve in this direction, which is exactly what I did. After enrolling in the most prestigious university in Kazakhstan – Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, majoring in “Management,” I effectively combined my studies with work in the field of eyelash extensions. I actively attended various courses, seminars, and master classes on professional makeup, volume eyelash extensions, coloring and decorating eyelashes, semi-permanent eyebrow restoration, and eyebrow extensions. In April 2017, I participated in the International Annual Championship in the Lash & Brow industry, “Your Gaze,” where I proudly secured the 2nd place.
Let me tell you a bit more about my professional activities.
After obtaining a Master’s degree in Management, I didn’t have to struggle with deciding my career path as I easily made a choice based on my true passion. During my university years, I worked for several years at the Nariman Las Studio in Almaty. Later, I was invited to work at the “Aiya Eyebrows” studio, specializing in eyebrows and eyelash care. In 2018, I decided to start my own business and opened a co-working studio for eyelash extensions. Alongside providing practical services, I also began teaching others the art of eyelash extension. Developing my own comprehensive training course took me nearly two years. Leveraging my professional skills, I conducted a series of masterclasses in Moscow, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, and the USA.
Speaking of the USA, you mentioned that you held a masterclass there. I heard it was on an unusual topic?
Yes, that’s correct. The masterclass program consisted of two parts: “Unique technique – safe eyelash extensions” and “Creating job opportunities for people with disabilities.”
Have you achieved any notable milestones in life and in your profession?
Certainly, there have been several significant achievements worth mentioning. As I mentioned earlier, I am a polyglot, fluent in four languages: Kazakh, Russian, English, and Turkish. I was a participant in the “Young Kazakhstan” program and founded a startup called “Work for People with Disabilities.” Currently, I am in the process of patenting the technique of “Safe eyelash extensions.” My masterclasses and seminars are attended by people from different parts of the world. Over my eight years of professional work, I have served more than 10,000 clients and trained over 1,000 students.
Thanks to my profession, I get to travel a lot and can find work opportunities anywhere in the world. I take pride in being able to buy property without external assistance.
How would you briefly describe your profession and its advantages?
Eyelash extensions are the true art of creating beauty. To wonderfully transform a woman’s gaze, add individuality, and create a flawless image, one definitely needs talent, experience, and high-quality materials. The work of a lash maker is often compared to that of a jeweler, demanding utmost attention and precision in movements. It’s hard to argue with that.
A qualified eyelash extension master should not only possess skills in selecting and applying lashes, doing corrections, and caring for lashes before and after the procedure but also be able to perform eyebrow modeling (coloring and shaping).
This profession has several advantages. It doesn’t require a higher education degree to work in the field. After completing special courses, one can work in a salon. A significant advantage is the decent salary with minimal initial investment. After gaining considerable experience and building a client base, there’s an opportunity to establish one’s own business.
What would you like to wish our readers?
I wish all women to learn to love themselves, not be afraid to experiment with their looks, and strive to look fabulous every day. And stop spending a fortune on buying volumizing mascara or false eyelashes. By turning to a lashmaker, you achieve three things at once: you save your budget, save time you spend daily on applying makeup, and look excellent for several months.
For those who want to pursue a career in the beauty industry, I want to say that anyone who desires can learn the technique of eyelash extensions. To gain the foundational knowledge, it’s enough to take a basic course, and for more in-depth education, it’s advisable to attend a school with personalized training.
