He served four terms, during which he was elected by his colleagues as the Board’s Vice-Chair for multiple school years, including 2006-2007, 2012-2013, 2017-2018, and 2018-2019. His leadership was instrumental in various initiatives, such as helping to spearhead Health Connect, a partnership with The Children’s Trust, which led to providing nurses in 164 schools. Dr. Karp’s tenure was marked by his commitment to staying connected to the classroom, working as a teacher, and serving as a consultant for a nonprofit foundation that supported education initiatives. One notable program is the SUCCESS CENTER at Yeshiva Elementary School (Y.E.S.), which began its implementation in August 2022. This program focuses on individualized instruction and project-based learning, emphasizing each child’s strengths and passions. By incorporating weekly STEM activities and a speaker series, the SUCCESS CENTER provides a comprehensive and enriching educational experience. Additionally, Dr. Karp has implemented evidence-based assessment programs to improve instructional outcomes and expanded the use of instructional connection tools that emphasize personalized learning, individual guidance, and real-time analytics.

Dr. Karp also played a pivotal role in launching the gifted program at Biscayne Elementary School (BES) 32 years ago, establishing an unprecedented model that partnered public and private schools to recruit student participants. Additionally, he founded and produced a weekly children’s television show, WKDZ Kids’ World, that aired on local community access channels and WLRN channel 17.
