Standing out from the crowd in the business world often means embracing unconventional strategies. John Mark Cucci, a remarkable CEO of Top Tier 3PL, US special warfare veteran, and success coach, has made a name for himself by doing just that. From his humble beginnings in New Jersey to becoming a self-made millionaire by the age of thirty, John has consistently leveraged one powerful tool to beat the status quo: outsourcing.
After his time in the military, John transitioned to the corporate world, working for prestigious companies like Amazon, FedEx, and Airbnb. John’s entrepreneurial spirit flourished as he broke the worldwide record for home deliveries at Amazon and invested wisely in real estate. “I realized that the greatest asset you can buy is time. When someone else is working toward a goal for you, it’s exponentially more powerful,” John says. This epiphany was the cornerstone of his approach to business and life.
Outsourcing: A Game Changer
The pivotal moment for John came when he hired his first personal assistant. Initially, the assistant was meant to help with his dog, ensuring it received the attention it needed while John focused on his work. However, the assistant soon began handling other tasks—laundry, car maintenance, email management, and more.
“That’s how it all started where I started to really see a lot of value in placing a premium on my own time,” John explains. “I told the world and the universe that my time has much more value than anybody else can put on it. By freeing up my time from menial tasks, I was able to fully focus on what I call my ‘core functions’ which were business, fitness, and faith.”
Coaching Others to Outsource
John’s unique approach to time management and business structure has become the foundation of his coaching practice. He helps busy executives and entrepreneurs manage their time effectively and build their dreams.
“I just worked with a GM who was very disciplined but didn’t want to go home and pull data and build presentations to build his side business. So, I introduced him to different applications and services that provide design and presentation services for $10-$25 a project. In a few weeks, he went from exhausted and frustrated to seeking clients for his side hustle. We only have so much mental RAM in a day, handing off tasks that drain your energy to someone else can exponentially increase your productivity and creativity.” John shares.
John emphasizes the importance of identifying and focusing on core functions. He evaluates a person’s discipline and how they manage tasks outside of work, such as family obligations and personal hobbies. If someone is frustrated with their energy levels and lacks time for personal projects, yet is also a heavy drinker, eats poorly, or stays up late playing video games, these are low-hanging fruits that can be addressed before progressing in the coaching process. There’s no point in outsourcing if simply eliminating some bad habits will provide more time and energy.
Building Infrastructure
John advises that building the right infrastructure is crucial to bringing your dreams to life. This infrastructure can be as simple as forming an LLC to legally track and deduct outsourced expenses. “People have great ideas, but they never put anything concrete behind them. Most people are paying 30-40% in income taxes and wonder where they could get the money to hire an outsourced podcast specialist or social media manager, for example. Create an LLC for $200 through a site like Wyomingagents.com, get a business checking account and debit card, and write off your business expenses that naturally occur while pursuing your dreams.”
John’s approach to outsourcing is practical and accessible. He encourages starting as soon as possible, even if it requires sacrifices. He shared a story about a friend suffering from severe burnout. This friend, an electrical engineer, pilot, soldier, father, and husband, struggled with time management and couldn’t be present for his son or himself. Delegation is simply not something we are taught in school or at work, it’s a real-world practice and sometimes you need an advisor.
John advised him to outsource some childcare activities and household tasks. They found a caregiver on Care.com for $18 an hour who could also run errands, take care of pets, and do light housekeeping. For $180 a week, his friend could regain 10 hours of his time. To cover the cost, John suggested stopping federal income tax withholding on his part-time job checks. Additionally, creating an LLC to pay the caregiver as a contractor would lower his tax burden.
John also suggests getting started by utilizing platforms like Fiverr, Upwork, ChatGPT, and AskSunday.com for specific digital tasks. “You can get a digital assistant from AskSunday.com for $30 a month to conduct research, manage your calendar, perform data entry into spreadsheets, build presentations, conduct SEO, and many other activities. Recently, I used an AskSunday.com assistant to help me apply for veteran tax benefits in my county. Not having to navigate government websites and fill out their forms yet still getting it done makes me happy in ways you would not imagine.” By outsourcing menial tasks, individuals can free up time to focus on higher-value activities, enhancing both their personal and professional lives.
Conclusion
John is still employing leverage and practicing what he preaches. “You weren’t designed to be a specialist or an expert in everything; you were designed to create and lead,” he encourages. “The sooner you leverage that, the sooner you will fulfill your potential.” John’s approach is not just about financial success—it’s about taking back your time to live a more full and balanced life.
