Mathisen then worked at Bloomberg News, a global news company focusing on business and markets. He covered Wall Street, the American economy, U.S. companies, and international markets at Bloomberg. During this period, Mathisen reported the biggest story of his career, the attack on and destruction of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. His reporting was focused not only on the immediate tragedy but also on national security policy changes. In this way, Mathisen’s experience connected with people affected by this disaster, giving a human face to the story and the importance of compassion in newsroom ethical practices.

After Bloomberg News, Mathisen hosted talk shows and served as program director at the Progressive Radio Network, and then went on to write and deliver newscasts at Fox News Radio.
