San Francisco Bay, CA – In digital and product design, few individuals have demonstrated the innovative prowess and impact of Xinyue Cheng. As a product designer in the San Francisco Bay Area, Xinyue has made significant contributions to the healthcare tech industry and beyond, with her work standing out as a testament to her creative genius and dedication.
Xinyue’s journey in design began with her academic pursuits at the University of Michigan, where she earned her Master’s degree in Human-Computer Interaction. This solid educational foundation equipped her with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the competitive UX and product design field.
From December 2019 to March 2024, Xinyue worked as a Product Designer at Lark Health in Mountain View, California. During her tenure, she pioneered the design integration of generative AI into the Lark app, revolutionizing diet tracking and nutrition coaching. This innovative approach enhanced the user experience and made nutrition coaching more accessible and personalized for users managing diabetes.
“Integrating Gen-AI into our app was a game-changer,” Xinyue reflects. “It not only enhanced the user experience but also significantly improved the accessibility and effectiveness of our nutrition coaching.”
In addition to her groundbreaking work with AI, Xinyue led a transformative redesign of Lark’s patient enrollment process. Her efforts resulted in an increase in conversion rates and generated significant additional revenue from existing partners. This project demonstrated her ability to create user-centered designs that drive tangible business results.
Xinyue also played a crucial role in establishing the Lark web design system in collaboration with engineering teams. This initiative provided clear guidelines for web design and development, fostering consistency and improving cross-functional collaboration. The results were evident in the seamless user interfaces and cohesive design language across Lark’s digital platforms.
Her impactful UI and interaction design updates for the Lark app significantly increased user engagement, showcasing her ability to design interfaces that are not only functional but also engaging and user-friendly.
Before her time at Lark Health, Xinyue honed her skills through various internships. At Wildblue Technologies in De Pere, Wisconsin, she enhanced sales retention for a retail website through strategic design informed by market research and user interaction principles. She also boosted marketing influence for a leading chocolate manufacturer by creating an interactive AR experience. She developed a visually engaging design package for a nonprofit campaign.
At iFlytek in Hefei, China, Xinyue enhanced the interaction and interface of the iFLYTEK Voice Input app, elevating the experience for 100 million active users. She also revamped an internal project management app, reducing collaboration time between teams.
However, one of Xinyue’s most distinguished achievements is her work on the “XYG Window” project. This project, which won the 2023 Red Dot Award and the 2022 DNA Paris Design Award, showcases her ability to blend traditional art and modern design seamlessly.
The “XYG Window” project fuses elements from ancient literati with modern visual communication. The team embraced modern simplicity by deconstructing Chinese characters and reorganizing the strokes in the style of traditional seals. The design was then polished with grid systems and the Fibonacci spiral, resulting in a harmonious blend of old and new. In the website design, the yin and yang spaces formed by the identity structure were leveraged as homepage navigations, creating an intuitive and visually striking user experience.
Xinyue’s role as an essential team member in the “XYG Window” project underscores her talent for combining cultural heritage with contemporary design principles. This project highlights her technical skills, her deep appreciation for cultural aesthetics, and her ability to innovate within these frameworks.
With a career marked by innovation, collaboration, and a relentless focus on user-centered design, Xinyue Cheng continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible in digital and product design. Her proficiency in tools such as Figma, Sketch, and Adobe Creative Suite, combined with her skills in user experience research, prototyping, and usability testing, make her a versatile and valuable asset to any design team.
As Xinyue looks to the future, her contributions to the field of design will undoubtedly continue to shape the landscape of digital health and beyond. Her ability to blend innovative thinking with meticulous execution positions her as a leader in crafting digital experiences that resonate with users and drive business success.
