The Miami advisor joins an international gathering celebrating five decades of luxury real estate, global relationships, and the connections shaping the industry’s future.

San Francisco provided a fitting setting for a gathering focused on what comes next. From October 6-8, Sotheby’s International Realty’s 2026 Global Networking Event brought its international community together to celebrate the brand’s 50th anniversary and look toward its next chapter.

Among those attending was Sebastian Acosta, a Global Real Estate Advisor with ONE Sotheby’s International Realty, whose career has grown alongside Miami’s transformation into an international destination for buyers, investors, and developers.

For Acosta, the event offered an opportunity to strengthen the personal relationships behind a global business. Approximately 2,700 real estate professionals attended, representing markets stretching from Maui to Japan, a reminder of how widely the brand’s community extends.

Acosta also highlighted the presence of 11 advisors from the newly opened Panama office, a meaningful connection for a Miami professional whose work frequently brings together clients and opportunities across the Americas.

Fifty Years of Global Reach

Established in 1976, Sotheby’s International Realty brought the Sotheby’s name into residential real estate, developing a network that connects local market expertise with an international audience.

Today, that network comprises more than 1,100 offices across 86 countries and territories, with nearly 26,000 sales associates. In 2025, it recorded $182.4 billion in global sales volume, an increase of nearly 16% over the previous year. The network also generated nearly $7 billion in global referral volume, demonstrating the commercial value of relationships between affiliated offices.

Those connections have practical relevance in Miami. A seller’s next buyer may already live in South Florida or may be considering a move from another country. An established relationship with an advisor in that buyer’s home market can help open a conversation, explain the opportunity, and coordinate an introduction.

The value of attending an event like GNE lies in making those relationships personal: knowing whom to call, understanding the clients other advisors represent, and developing familiarity that continues after the conference ends.

The gathering extended beyond its conference sessions. Cocktail receptions and evening events gave attendees time to reconnect with colleagues and meet advisors from markets they might otherwise know only through a referral or an email.

For Acosta, the highlight was the black-tie celebration at San Francisco City Hall. Its grand architectural setting gave the anniversary a sense of occasion, bringing the international community together for an evening that combined celebration with conversation. The brand’s event recap also highlighted the City Hall celebration and a welcome reception at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

These informal exchanges are an important part of the experience. A conversation over cocktails can become a future introduction, a shared listing opportunity, or a trusted contact for a client purchasing abroad.

Leadership, Resilience, and the Future

Acosta singled out appearances by Robert Reffkin and Olympic champion Lindsey Vonn among the event’s memorable moments.

Vonn’s participation as a keynote speaker brought a perspective shaped by elite competition, recovery, and sustained performance. In announcing her appearance, Sotheby’s International Realty emphasized leadership, adaptability, and the ability to keep performing under high expectations.

Those themes resonate in real estate, where experience matters most when conditions become more demanding. Buyers need clear guidance, sellers need realistic positioning, and negotiations require patience and sound judgment.

For an advisor, remaining effective means continuing to learn while maintaining the consistency clients expect.

Miami Expertise With International Perspective

Acosta began his real estate career in 2004 and has lived in Brickell for approximately 25 years. That history informs his work in a neighborhood where understanding a property often requires understanding the building, its surroundings, and the changes taking place nearby.

His background in international relations and finance also shapes how he approaches transactions, particularly when clients are weighing lifestyle goals alongside investment considerations.

His recent production has earned independent recognition. RealTrends Verified ranks Acosta No. 2 in Miami by transaction sides based on 2025 sales data, recording 57.4 sides and approximately $26.31 million in sales volume.

Through his work as founder and editor of Brickell News, Acosta follows the development and neighborhood stories that help explain the market beyond individual listings. For clients, that perspective can add context to decisions about where to buy, when to sell, and how to position a property.

Bringing the Connections Home

For Acosta, the lasting value of San Francisco will be measured in the relationships he brings back to Miami.

A global network becomes useful through individual actions: an introduction to an overseas buyer, a conversation with an advisor who understands a client’s home country, or a referral handled with care from beginning to end.

As Sotheby’s International Realty enters its next 50 years, Acosta’s experience at GNE reflects the opportunity ahead for advisors who combine close knowledge of their own neighborhoods with the relationships to serve clients across borders.

For Miami, a city shaped by those connections, that combination remains especially relevant.
